HLAC-1096 Final Reflection...

 1. What connections have you had from what you’ve studied in Fitness for Life with what you’ve learned from other courses you have taken at SLCC or have learned before taking this class? Make specific references to your work in this class and in other courses. How did what you learned in other courses enhance what you learned in Fitness for Life, and vice versa?

This semester, I decided to take Fitness for Life along with a nutrition course. Fitness for Life taught me the importance of maintaining a physical fitness regiment, as well as a healthy nutrition plan. In order to maintain optimal physical fitness, one must include both aspects, physical activity and a nutritious diet, in order to achieve one's physical fitness goals and optimal health. Many assignments from my nutrition course were very similar to assignments I had for Fitness for Life. Both classes required students to assess our diets, physical fitness, and nutrition through a dietary and exercise journal. These assignments helped me to understand the importance of adequate nutrition for optimal health, energy, and performance.

2. Reflect on what you thought about Fitness and Lifelong Wellness before you took this course and how you think about it now that the course is over. Have any of your assumptions or understandings changed? Why? What assignments/activities/readings were influential in this process? How will you approach what influenced you differently in the future?

I have always been one to focus on my physical health and appearance. This fitness course, hand in hand with my nutrition course, taught me that not only should I focus on my physical health and appearance, but also my mental health. I learned about how exercise and nutrition could improve not only the physical aspects of my body, but how they could also help with brain function and my overall mental health. The assignments that were influential in this learning process were mostly quizzes throughout the semester. Each quiz required textbook reading that enlightened me about the cognitive advantages of physical exercise and nutrition. These activities and readings will help me to tailor my exercise regiment and nutrition in ways that could help me to potentially battle seasonal depression and promote a happier, as well as healthier, lifestyle for me.
